  • Refuge from the Storm

I set off once more with the
    Weary road winding behind me
Littered with the dry leaves of fall
    Some loose, some piled
Most choose flight in the wind

    It was a sudden storm
    That found me unaware
    As the dark settled in
    No refuge from driving rain
    Pummeling my aching back

    On through the maelstrom
    Of sound and flashing light
    Piercing the worn armor
    Crafted early, weathered long
    Barely sufficient in use

    And yet on my journey
    No evidence was found
Of all those truths I sought
    The dust deals in silence
    The bare land reveals nothing
