The world just is a giant playground
For the kid who’s best at hide and seek
An endless assortment of places to hide to
Shelter you like a giant shade-tree
From the searing sun, away from
Places where people suffer
from war and famine
never imagined by nature that
Displace families,
Ravage lives, and
Destroy the future
Most of us were never that kid and
now we suffer
As the once hidden places are laid bare for all
Revealing the dark parts in the minds of men
Where the unquenchable lust for power
at all costs
by any means
Punishes the least invested as a byproduct
Not intended for human consumption
As horrors are laid out in repeating cycles
On the daily news
I welcome them as guests at the table
Shining a spotlight so everyone
Can see what it truly is and examine
every fracture
every fault
every festering sore
Living on the fields where those other kids play
So I can face truths and not lose myself there
